Ginny Phillips Photography blog! bio picture
  • Hello, friends!

Hi! I'm Ginny! I am so glad you've come to the blog. Photography is not only a job but a passion. I hope you enjoy a bit of my new work as you browse around!

I have several full-time jobs: stay-at-home mom/wife, work-from-home photographer, and owner of west eighty third etsy shop.

I am a Christian and I am blessed beyond measure!

I love music more than I can tell you, it makes me weep often. I want to go to London more than any place in the world. I love to smell Lowe's, am scared of lighthouses, and can eat like a man. I love Pride and Prejudice, Friends, football, the Memphis Zoo, and crinkling leaves in the Fall. I am a very passionate person who loves people, interaction, taking walks, and being with my family. They are my #1 dream job.

    Thanks for visiting!

Katie and Mark, photographing as a second shooter

I got to be a second shooter again!  I have to say, I enjoy doing it every now and then.  It takes the “Wedding day” pressure off of me and allows me to sort of just take orders more…which I enjoy occasionally;) I love second shooting with my friend, Christen Jones, mainly because we are friends.  She and I have such fun together!  She is 36 weeks pregnant and decided she needed help with this one:) She still rocked it out even though it was sooo hot and she was sooo pregnant!  We make a great team!  We shot this wedding at St. Mary’s downtown followed by a reception on the rooftop lounge of the Peabody Hotel.

So, enjoy some of my “assistant” shots of this summer wedding!

A few little gems for the night…

I am editing a wedding tonight and also sorting through two photoshoots and some party pictures.  I wanted to share with you some little beauties that I am loving tonight!

I dabble…

So, as a full-time stay-at-home-mom, I am with my kids everyday.  I am so so so so so thankful for that!  Really, we are so blessed for me to be able to be home with them.  Matt has a great job and God has truly blessed me with a hardworking husband who works so hard for us.  With that said, I of course also am a part-time photographer and owner of my business, Ginny Phillips Photography, and have been for 5 years.  Recently I opened up my Etsy shop, West Eighty Third, and so I have started dabbling in some graphic design as well.  As many of you know I also LOVE interior decorating and have a huuuuuuge passion for it!  Now comes my newest design adventure!  You’ve seen a couple of pieces that I’ve done, but I’ve recently been teaming up with the incredibly talented Amber Butler of Oh! Sew Precious Designs.  Find her on etsy!  When you go to her shop you will find about a billion things I’ve designed for her to create and sell from her shop.  She is also a SAHM and does this job for extra income and to feed her creative passion.  I’ve designed over 25 pieces for her, 2 entire collections, and in addition to what you are about to see I still have 2 full outfits I need to photograph and they are 2 of my favorites!  I will post those soon…but for now, enjoy some of my designs for Oh! Sew Precious:)

Jude’s First Birthday Party!

Jude is one!  Our little Momma’s boy is getting older!  He’s a mess and into everyyyyything…but he is also a snuggler, whiner, kisser, and i love to squish him up and kiss him all over:) So thankful for our little boy!

I decided, since his bday is June 17th and basically in the summertime, that I wanted to have an outdoor party.  After pondering lots of options and wanting something unique, I decided on an “old-fashioned picnic” theme!  I wanted twine, brown paper bags, jeans, wildflowers, sack races, egg and spoon race, and lots of sweet tea and lemonade.  I also wanted it to be in our back field and I knew I wanted the tables to be blankets on the ground.  So, here’s what I came up with!  Everything country, lots of vintage, mason jars, sack lunches with sandwiches and chips inside each bag, games and playing for the kids, lots of bunting, paper chains hanging from trees, and even an old clothesline of jude’s most countryish clothes hanging:) Hope you enjoy!

P.S.  He enjoyed his cake quite a lot;)

Guest bathroom redo…London and Jude’s new bathroom!

So, I did some before and after pictures of our little guest bathroom redo.  Since its in the hallway with London’s room at one end and Jude’s on the other, we decided to officially turn it into “their” bathroom so they could get baths in there each night instead of our big jacuzzi tub!  I hated the floor (WHITE tiles that NEVER came clean!) hated the dated vanity, hated the huge mirror and haaaated the sea shell sink and counter top.  Since my dad is super handy man, he ripped out the floors, installed the new ones I picked out, installed the new vanity and sink, and put everything back into place before we got our hands on it and painted and I decorated.  I had to find a gender neutral theme since it was for a boy and girl.  AND we had a tight budget.  We purchased the vanity, sink/countertop, mirror (which I painted) paint for walls, 2 rugs, shower curtain, towels, soap dispenser, floor tiles and materials, 5 1/4 inch floor boards, and materials for various craft projects.  We already had the hand towel holder/towel bar/toilet paper holder, light fixture, faucet, toilet, tub/shower, shower curtain hooks, shower rod, trash can, and window valance.  :)  We kept it at about $850.  I made the letters for the wall out of wooden plates…I painted them, adhered scrapbook paper to those and covered cardboard letters in more paper and painted the sides of the letters, then glued the letters to the plate.  I also made the button flower bouquet using only pipe cleaner and buttons:) My favorite items in the room are the little soap dispenser, the elephants holding trunks toothbrush holders for both of their toothbrushes, and the orange circle mirror that I painted!  AND the tiny rectangular tile floors.  They are backsplash tiles but I thought they would look fabulous as a floor!  AND the rectangular sink…picked out first by matt!

Enjoy!

Tiffany and Tommy

Hey ya’ll!  Tonight I am posting a little bit of Tiffany and Tommy’s wedding from last month.  I am a little late in blogging this, but the couple already has their DVD!  I thought I would at least share part of their pictures on the blog for everyone to enjoy.  What a sweet couple!  Thank you to you both for being so kind and SO laid back on your wedding day.  And thank you Kelly for coming with me to assist that day!  I had a blast with you!  :)  Please enjoy some photos from Tiffany and Tommy’s wedding day.

Collin and Matt

I don’t know if you all remember when I assisted my friend Christen at another wedding last year, but this was wedding #2 as her second shooter!  I love to help her every now and then because it seems like my job as a stay-at-home-mom likes being a second shooter a lot…Christen edits the pictures.  So basically I show up and do what she says.  It’s nice every now and then to not be running the show as far as photography goes!  I am glad to help her:) There aren’t many, but please enjoy some pictures of Collin and Matt and their beautiful wedding at the Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis!

Little Miss fashionista London

I have been shooting some boutique clothes lately and of course have been using London as the model;) There will be TONS more pieces to shoot in the next few weeks!  You will get sick of seeing all the clothes:)

The first one is a funky photoshoot for a really cool yellow chevron dress by Corinne.  Here is her etsy shop!  http://www.etsy.com/shop/corinnecitroloone

The second is one that I actually designed with Amber of Oh! Sew Precious designs!  It’s available for purchase!  http://www.etsy.com/shop/ohsewpreciousdesigns

Taegan is 1 :)

Here’s a quick look at a few of miss Taegan’s one year pictures!  She had a really cute “Pinkalicious” bday party, with lemonade and lots of pink treats!  Sorry for the quick words…more posts coming soon!  Enjoy some of Taegan’s pictures:)
